When you think about a farmer you might imagine a happy guy walking through his farm, under the shining sun. But that’s not always true. A farmer is used to work for long periods of time, usually for 8 to 12 hours, without taking any breaks.
On top of that, things are not always easy and fun. Rain, mud, and the wind are all part of the farmer’s life. The problem is that there are a lot of boots in the market, and only a few of them can be helpful to a farmer. The 3 Features To Look For in The Best Farm Work Boots For Ranchers and Farmers
Protection For The Worst-Case Scenario
By being a farmer, there are a lot of guidelines you must take into consideration when selecting your next pair of work boots. One of them is getting boots that deliver trustworthy protection to your feet, so when something bad happens you can avoid an injury. On that account, getting steel toe boots might be a great idea as this type of protection feature keeps your toes safe from falling rocks and other heavy objects that can harm you.
Comfort For 8 to 12 Hour Work Shifts
Farmers are used to working for long periods of time. Working for 8 to 12 hours by walking in harsh surfaces is very common. That’s why you must get a pair of work boots comfortable enough to make you feel as if you wouldn’t have worked at all. Lucky for you, all the boots I listed in this article are extremely comfortable, so you don´t have to do the work of searching and analyzing.
Reliable Durability
As I told you before, a farmer is used to work in very hard outdoor conditions. Wet and dry mud, rain, rocks, are part of a farmer’s life. So, you as a farmer need to get boots that have the materials capable of standing these extreme circumstances. Top-quality leather and good construction methods used to manufacture them are essential. So, be on the look-out, low-quality boots might be cheaper but in the long run are always more expensive.
What about women who farm?
We’re currently working on doing articles for helping women to find the right pair of work boots.
Thanks a lot for asking that question, it motivates us to keep improving!
Jack.
That’s not really an answer; “Working on doing articles for helping women” doesn’t indicate any timeframe and just tells me you aren’t invested in that. Which is your prerogative as the site owner, but some of us were drawn here bc the article title is best farm work boots for ranchers and farmers, so maybe go in and edit the title to be specific to men. If you are intending to reach all of us, speaking as a former journalist, it would be easier to research both kinds of boots and include them in the same article than to do an entire new article.
Seriously though.. all men’s boots! Plus what about mucking through the mud season?!! Looking for boots I can get through calf high water or shit (literally) when need be and breathable when I don’t want to buy a new pair every season. I generally buy mucks or bogs but my boots are always sweated up at the end of the day and I work 7 days a week.
Hi,
We’re working on articles targeted to women. Thanks for asking, that makes us work even harder on them, and sorry for the delay.
Addressing your comment about muck Boots, I think they should be ok for farming, and I do understand where you’re coming from when you said they’re breathable. Maybe I’ll include them in a future article update.
Thanks for commenting!
did you do any of these like this plus for running thru mud and poop? so much rain and mud this year
Same! Need a good boot to walk pastures but also wade through swamp lands and mud.
Hilary the muckmaster muck boots have a good breathable neoprene liner go up to knees and are literally waterproof I have to do work standing in creeks with them highly recommend for wet season wear
Like the other commenters, I agree you should AT LEAST edit this title to “The 7 Best Farm Work Boots Ranchers and Farmers (Male Edition)” or something more specific. At the moment, your all-inclusive title is misleading and is pissing off some fine women out there looking for a good shoe. Something to think about at least.
Nkticed this from over a year ago. Did you ever fet an article for women’s farming boots?
I work in chicken houses 12 plus hours a day and it is hard to find any boots that will withstand the high amounts of ammonia in the chicken litter. The litter is often wet and the the conditions are more times than not are hot and of course on feet 99% of the time.
Still waiting for that women’s list…
Great article! I can’t help but point out a glaring discrepancy though. You awarded the Ariat Workhog boot “most comfortable” then slapped your score chart immediately under where that same boot has the literal lowest score in the comfort column. The links in the chart indicate these scores are based on your own reviews so how did the lowest scoring boot win?
I love these farm boots! I’ve finally found a comfortable, durable, and easy-care waterproof boot for all my outdoor work. Much cuter than my usual rubber boots. I love the “button” on the heel that allows me to grab it with my toe to easily kick out my foot. It slides so easily and then holds my ankle so well.
